Questions for Idolatry

Following my sermon on idolatry yesterday, a Living Hoper shared with me some questions she asks that help her identify idols. I thought I’d pass them along…

To discern if your idol has become a mistress, an act of spiritual adultery: “What do I turn to for pleasure or relief?”

To discern if your idol has become a master, an act of spiritual slavery: “Who am I working for, or what do I serve?”

To discern if your idol has become a messiah for you, a false spiritual savior: “Who or what am I trusting in to provide security, assurance, or peace?”
